Chapter Thirty Nine – Babies and Bathwater

So, a dragon shows up and starts messing with people’s heads…from the inside. How does that work out…? The psychological warfare aspect of this battle between good and evil can’t be ignored, it’s a huge part of the story. I knew that, I just wasn’t sure how to bring it to life. What I did realize was that letting that start to play out needed to be the main goal of this chapter. So, I started thinking about how the ‘common man’ would react to a dragon speaking poisonous lies into their heads. That led me to remember Shahdow following one those people who was on his way to meet up with the dragon. I really liked that lead in; it made me ask myself, “What happened after that meeting?” From there, it didn’t take long to put together some very interesting and weighty plot lines. The question is, how well did the journey from my brain to the keyboard go?

EHLSEWHERE Chapter Thirty Nine

Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. It’s an old saying, that basically means, that no matter how unsavory something is, there’s still something worth savaging, something that’s too valuable–precious even, to discard. As I’m sitter here typing this after reading chapter thirty nine, that’s what I’m thinking. Honestly, a part of me wants to throw the whole thing away and just start over. But, as bad as the writing was, sentence by sentence, flow, emotional hot points–or lack thereof, ect., ect,, if done right I think this could be a powerful chapter. Here’s what I think I know; I’m going to keep Tuvor, Bixly Hilde, and their whole situation. I’ll likely also keep Shahdow’s misgivings and insights. Everything else…well, we’ll have to see where the story takes us, but I want a lot more emotional impact across the board. Plus, the next version of this needs to flow, not just read like a bunch of soundbites intended to get us from one plot point to the next. Anyway, those are my current thoughts, I sure hope there’s a beautiful baby hiding in there somewhere.

May you feel the Lord’s love and light throughout your day,

Mike
